Ergonomic Chairs: Not Just for the Workplace!

I was sitting on this chair the other day and it was simply not agreeing with me. The seat was too low, the back part was wrong, and the overall experience just made me wish I could sit on air instead of having to put up with this horrible seat! A few hours of attempted levitation later, I realised something had to be done. I could no longer crouch on this tiny wooden chair any longer! What I needed was a good ergonomic office chair, like the one at my work.

Ergonomic chairs Melbourne are not just for offices I've realised! Why should you only be comfortable in the space of your office or workstation and not at your home or in other places around town? Granted I wasn't crazy enough to start dragging some ergonomic office chairs all around the city to my favourite cafes to sit on, I would just have to deal with their own furniture. however, when in the comfort of my own home, I am the boss and as the boss I have decided to bring myself some much needed and well-deserved comfort.

After a quick Google search on "ergonomic office chairs Melbourne" I discovered that there were many, many chairs out there which all seemed quite suitable to my needs. One particular website that caught my attention was http://www.officefurnituredeals.com.au/ergonomic-office-chairs/. This site had everything I was looking for, with a number of chairs in all different colours and sizes!

I quickly rushed out and bought a chair that was comfortable and in my favourite colour (blue, of course). And guess what? I'm sitting on it right now! I have to be off to a late lunch soon but my desire to keep sitting here is overwhelming at the moment. Maybe I'll call my friend and tell her I'll be a bit late... Just five more minutes...

Another Day In The Office

So I was in the office the other day and saw a woman sitting hunched over her desk, looking like she was ready to keel over and collapse. Her chair looked like it was from the 60's and I began to wonder who it was that allowed for that monstrosity to be placed in our work space. I leaned comfortably into my ergonomic chair and wondered if I should confront her. There would be a lot of health issues associated with how she was sitting!

Being a big fan of a comfortable workplace, especially with so many ergonomic office chairs in Melbourne, I just couldn't understand how she was okay with the situation! I tried to take a few sneaky snap shots of her from my seat, but she seemed to notice and got up to venture into the kitchen. I was very thankful she was no longer sitting in that horrible position; it was affecting me to the point of almost feeling her pain myself! She was looking somewhat like this:

As I started up my computer for the day I quickly did a google search for "ergonomic chairs melbourne" and found this site to send her: http://www.officefurnituredeals.com.au/ergonomic-office-chairs/. Hopefully she'll see it as a friendly, helpful hint rather than a dig! Yet somehow I have a feeling she won't be overly enthusiastic about socialising with me any time soon.

Keeping Your Spine Healthy

I found this video very interesting. Spinal health in office workplaces needs to be absolutely non-negociable. It's no long acceptable to provide workers with an inferior seating arrangement.

The video above is comparing the spinal health issues in Australia to smoking. Smoking in Australia is becoming less and less popular due to increased taxes and no smoking in doors. The attention paid to smokers and trying to get them to butt out has been great for the general health of the nation.

Making sure that spinal health gains the same traction is imperative in creating a health nation of people.

Could this workstation be the way of the future? Probably not, but it's still cool.

Spinal Health and Comfort

Staying comfortable in the workplace is absolutely essential to gaining and maintaining productivity.  A healthy and comfortable workplace is a happy and productive one. Spinal health is of the utmost importance for all workers who are sitting at their desk for 5+ hours per day. Sitting down for such a long period of 5 days a week can have serious effects on the lumbar spine if not properly protected. Spinal conditions such as spinal stenosis and sciatica are affecting millions of office workers around the world because their seating conditions aren’t acceptable.

Whilst spinal conditions from prolonged periods of sitting can take a long time to develop, make no mistake about them: they will happen. In an age where you can take workplaces to court over pretty much anything, providing the best possible seating arrangements should not be neglected. Ergonomic chairs in Melbourne can save your spine!
Spinal Stenosis

What makes a great ergonomic office chair?

-       Adjustability. With arm rests, seating heights, seating angles, lean heights and just about every other part of the chair able to be adjusted, the sitter can choose exactly what is comfortable for them.

-       Lumbar supporting systems. This is really what separates an ergonomic office chair from a standard edition. The ability to offer your lumbar spine the support needed is why ergonomic office chairs are so popular.

-       Rotation System. Ergonomic office chairs should all offer a swivel system, so the worker can easily reach all corners of their desk with minimum fuss.

With all of these ergonomic systems in place, it’s still extremely important to stay active in the workplace. Whether it be taking a walk to the water cooler every hour, or doing workplace exercises whilst in your area, you need to stay active. Going to the gym at lunchtime and working the Gluteal muscles is an effective way of ensuring a strong lower back, which will be less susceptible to later pain.
